Panini Select Football: A Chiefs Collector's Overview

Panini Select Football sits in the hobby’s mid-premium chrome tier — built on the same chromium stock as Prizm, but organized around a distinctive three-level structure that layers scarcity and value into the base set itself. This overview is written for Kansas City Chiefs collectors deciding how Select fits between the entry-level and premium ends of their collection.

What Select is

Select’s signature feature is its tiered base, named after stadium seating and getting scarcer as you climb. Collectors often describe it as three tiers, but recent Select Football checklists carry five:

• Concourse — the entry tier, the most common version of each player.
• Premier Level — the mid tier, scarcer than Concourse.
• Club Level — a further step up.
• Field Level — the scarce top-end tier most collectors chase.
• Suite Level — the smallest tier of all, a short run of players only.

Where Select fits: between entry-level and premium

The cleanest way to place Select is against the two set reviews on either side of it:

• Below it: Panini Donruss Football — the affordable, paper-stock entry point with the iconic Rated Rookie subset.
• Alongside it: Panini Mosaic Football — the accessible chrome set with the signature mosaic-pattern base; Select’s more affordable chrome sibling, minus the tiered structure.
• Above it: Panini Prizm Football — the premium chromium flagship and the biggest chase in the modern hobby.

Select occupies the middle: chrome cards a clear step up from entry-level, with the tiered-base twist that Prizm doesn’t have, but generally trading below the top Prizm rookies and parallels. For a collector who wants chromium variety without paying full flagship prices, Select is a natural target.

The Chiefs angle

Any given year’s Select will include the Chiefs’ notable players — Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones among current stars, plus the year’s rookies across all three tiers. Rather than name specific card numbers or print runs — which change every release — the smart move for a team collector is to decide which tier and parallel you’re after and buy that exact single on eBay. A sealed box is random; targeted single-buying is how you actually build a Chiefs collection.

• The colored prizm parallels and die-cuts are where scarcity concentrates; numbered parallels of a Field Level rookie are the premium end.

The NFL card licence has now changed hands: Panini held the exclusive from 2016 through the 2025 season, and Fanatics-owned Topps holds it from 2026. The first fully NFL-licensed Topps product since 2015 was 2025 Topps Chrome Football, released 15 April 2026; 2026 Topps Flagship Football (21 August 2026) restored the flagship series. Panini still prints football — 2026 Donruss Football is dated 30 September 2026 — but all of its pro cards are now unlicensed, with the checklist shifted toward retired greats and college stars.
